Set inside a restored Navy coal shed on the Mare Island waterfront, our Coal Shed Brewery is the perfect spot to unwind with friends and family. Grab a seat in the outdoor beer garden, or take in the shipyard history from inside the taproom. We’ve got a wide selection of craft beer made right here onsite, housemade cocktails on tap, wine, and more. Nine historic coal sheds, all built between 1898 and 1906, sit prominently on the waterfront of Mare Island; their original use was to protect and load the coal for the Navy’s steamships. Of course steam was quickly replaced by diesel (and eventually nuclear), and the Sheds were likewise converted to provide other ship services: pipeworks, shipwrights, electrical, etc.

We have painstakingly and completely restored and renovated the first of nine coal sheds. This historic waterfront building on Mare Island is home to our state-of-the art 15-barrel brewhouse.
