A general's prized mare and a shipwreck. A naval shipyard founded in 1854. Forty thousand welders, torpedo makers, radiomen and Rosie the Riveters securing our freedom through a Civil, a Cold, and two World Wars. Two winemakers now toiling to handcraft beer worthy of this historic island.
Behind Every Great Beer
Is a great story
Learn about the storied naval base, how our founders went from wine to beer, and the story of how our little brewery grew into the communal hub our loyal patrons have come to love.

Extended Sunday Hours at the Coal Shed Brewery

All summer, we heard the same thing: “wish you were open later on Sundays.”
Message received.
If you've spent a Sunday afternoon at the Coal Shed, you've probably been the person — or sat next to the person — who looked up around 5:45 with half a pint left and said “wait, you close at six?”
Not anymore. Starting Sunday, September 13, the Coal Shed Brewery is open until 8:30pm every Sunday — two and a half more hours, all season long, right through January 10.
The New Sunday Hours
- Sundays: 11:30am – 8:30pm
- September 13, 2026 – January 10, 2027
- Coal Shed Brewery, on the Mare Island waterfront
Two and a Half More Hours on the Waterfront
Sundays are always a good day at the Coal Shed — families on the promenade, the beer garden going all afternoon. So instead of cutting the party short, we thought we'd keep it going a while longer.
More time to catch the Sunday night games (fantasy misery loves company). The full menu runs until close, kids menu included, with housemade cocktails and fresh pours on tap. No rush to head out.
See you Sunday.
